Advocacy Focus will be addressing the stigma of mental health in the work place and have developed an action plan around this to be launched on February 24th at their official pledge signing event at Accrington Library.

At the launch event members of staff and volunteer Peer Advocates will talk about their own experience of mental health issues and also their experience of supporting service users, alongside showing a video from Time to Change and signing the Time to Change pledge.

Each employee will have their own Wellness Action Plan to support their mental health whilst at work and to encourage colleagues to support each other.

The event will be open to partner organisations and both individuals and organisations will be able to sign up to make their own pledge to the Time for Change campaign on the day.

As part of the commitment to the campaign, Advocacy Focus have engaged the services of Jim Marquis, a psychologist and counsellor who will work with groups and individuals to deliver sessions on stress management, as well as examining the culture and values of the organisation. One to one confidential mental health counselling from Jim will also be available to staff and paid for by Advocacy Focus.

The plan is to embed this service within Advocacy Focus to support staff and then to also help staff to support service users.
