Mental Health Volunteer Area: Hospitals across Lancashire and Trafford (Chorley, Lancaster, Ormskirk, Preston and Trafford) Hours: Minimum of 3/4 hours per week (expenses paid) Do you want to jump into a rewarding role, supporting people to become more involved in their care and treatment and have their voice heard? We're looking for mental health volunteers to support people who have been hospitalised due to mental ill health. You don't need to be a mental health expert, empathy matters more than academic qualifications or experience. We are keen to hear from people of all ages, of all walks of life and with lived experience of mental ill health. As a volunteer for Advocacy Focus, you will receive a full induction and training for the role, learning about how to support someone with mental ill health to understand their rights and access advocacy support. The Role Facilitate visits to mental health wards to let patients know we can support them and keep them informed of their rights Promote self-advocacy and empowerment, help patients speak up about their wishes and needs To take referrals to our service or signpost to other services if needed To support patients to address issues with ward staff Provide support during ward rounds and/or low level meetings Person Specification – What we need from you You will need to be a caring and warm person with an enthusiasm to make a difference in peoples' lives.
