Advocacy Focus has been shortlisted for four awards at this year’s North-West Charity Awards 2018; beating our former record-breaking hat trick at the E3 Awards and giving us a total of nine nominations across five award ceremonies so far this year!

We are up for North-West Charity of the Year, Charity Director of the Year, Volunteer Team of the Year and Best Social Media and Digital.

Our CEO, Justine says:

“We are overwhelmed at being shortlisted in not just one but four categories at this year’s North-West Charity Awards, which celebrates and recognises some amazing charities from across the region. To be up there with some of these leading causes really cements the changing attitudes to advocacy and the awareness and understanding that has come about over the last few years.

“Reaching the finals for each of these categories really shows our skills across a number of different areas. Each award nomination is testament to the hard work of our team. I know we say this a lot and it is something that many organisations say, but our people really are our greatest asset and without them we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

After recently winning an award herself for Excellence in Engagement at the North-West Group Employee Engagement Awards 2018, Justine is glad that she is now sharing some of the limelight with John Hutchison, Operations Director, who has scored the shortlist for Charity Director of the Year.

She says: “I’m really pleased that John has been shortlisted for Charity Director of the Year. John has a keen sense of humour which makes him a Director that everybody likes and respects. His open door policy ensures that he is in touch with the team when they need him and his absolute focus is to make sure that the team have what they need to do the best possible job for our beneficiaries.

“He is my right arm man and without him our organisation would still be in League Two as opposed to the Premier League. No-one deserves this award more than John and I just know that he would be delighted to receive it for what can sometimes be a thankless task when you head up logistics and operations!”

This year’s nominations also highlight the magnificent work by our Volunteer Team, led by our very own award-winning Volunteer Manager, Lauren. Justine says: “Our volunteers are integral to the work we do at Advocacy Focus and support many different areas of our operations and services; from facilitating drop ins on mental health wards, to supporting Advocates on visits, they are crucial to helping us deliver first class advocacy.

“The work that Lauren undertakes in personally mentoring and developing each and every volunteer is second to none and I’m delighted that as a team they are being recognised.”

We have been hot on the awards scene this year having just been shortlisted for three awards at the North-West’s E3 Business Awards, walking away with the award for Skills, Education and Training 2018.

Justine finishes:

“We couldn’t have dreamt of the success we’ve had at the awards this year and it has come at the perfect time as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. I’d like to once again extend a huge thank you to all the team at Advocacy Focus.  They make this a great place to work and a place where I look forward to coming in every day!”
