Anita Lindon has joined the Advocacy Focus Board of Trustees after a successful career in health and social care.

We asked what made Anita become a Trustee of our charity:

"I retired from Lancashire County Council in September 2017 after 23 years of working as a social worker and Deprivation of Liberty Best Interests Assessor.  For the past few years I managed the Dols team and then appointed to Mental Capacity co-ordinator working.  Prior to joining Lancashire I worked in childcare services in other local authorities.

"During my time with the Dols team I worked closely with IMCAs from Advocacy Focus and found their professionalism and commitment to person centred practice impressive.  This extended to all their advocates – everyone I met was passionate about what they did and how they supported people to have a voice.

"When I retired from Lancashire I was asked if I would be interested in joining the Board as a trustee – I didn’t have to be asked twice!  It was a role where I felt I could offer my experience and skills, and be part of an organisation I felt reflected my own values and beliefs.

"Since joining the Board my expectations have been more than fulfilled.  The Board are enthusiastic in their support of the staff team, and I’ve had tremendous support in understanding my role as trustee from both the Board and everyone at Advocacy Focus.

"The recent ‘Breaking Barriers’ conference is an excellent example of how Advocacy Focus are able to reach numerous groups and provide relevant information and support.

"I hope to be part of the developments the management team are working on: whatever we can do to enhance the lives of people who need support to have their voice heard can only be a good thing, especially those who lack capacity to make choices and decisions for themselves."

We look forward to having Anita as part of the team and know she will bring a wealth of information and experience to our charity.
